Under a watchful eye, loads and loads of concrete are pumped right underneath a New Port Richey home -- essentially beefing up the underlying earth and filling in voids to protect against dangerous sinkholes.
"It comes down to, you have no idea what's going on under the ground," said Derek Fernandez, with Helicon Foundation Repairs.
Helicon Foundation Repair was called in because around the house, there were numerous tell-tale warning signs.
"You'll have a staircase from where there are separating windows and doors that do not open properly. If you have a pool, any separation on your pool deck -- big indication," Fernandez said.
Florida is well known for its sinkhole issues, and this New Port Richey neighborhood has seen several homes have sinkhole work done.
"It's scary but ...you just have to live with it," Cindi Thomas said.
"It is definitely something that shouldn't be neglected. If you feel you do have a sinkhole, or are hearing cracks, we recommend you look into it," Fernandez said.
You may also want to look into your homeowner's insurance policy. Some experts say if you can afford the extra sinkhole coverage, it's worth it.
"Most homeowners, especially Hillsborough, Henarndo, Pasco, the tri-county area, most are not even going to have it as option," said Eric Most of Most Insurance.
