High school brawl caught on video

LAKELAND (FOX 13) -

An ugly melee broke out around noon, punches flew and bodies tangled as several students fought it out on campus at George Jenkins High School.

"I think it's ridiculous. It shouldn't have happened," said junior Hunter Adrian. Adrian was on his way to class when he came across the fight. He says it involved a few ROTC students and others. At one point, a student in uniform is slammed hard to the ground, by a much larger boy.

"I mean, kids are more mature than to throw punches at each other," Adrian said. "Me being in ROTC, I'm disappointed seeing kids in uniform," he added.

Groups of students are seeing cheering on the fight. School officials say it may have started during lunchtime. Thanks to the video, the school is investigating, and so is the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

We're told charges are pending.

"Do you worry this is going to give a black eye to the school?" we asked.

"Yeah it's gonna cast a shadow and give us a bad name," Adrian said.

George Jenkins is considered an "A" school, and the principal says the fight doesn't reflect the entire student body at all, only a small group that made poor choices.

Not surprisingly, the fight was the talk on campus in this digital age, where everyone has access to a phone and a camera.
