89-Year-Old Woman Punched, Robbed While Loading Groceries

WILMINGTON, Del. -

Delaware State Police are looking for the man who they say punched and then robbed an 89-year-old woman as she was loading groceries into her car outside of a Wilmington Pathmark.

Police say the robbery happened outside the Pathmark on the 3900 block of Lancaster Pike Tuesday night around 7:15 p.m.

The suspect, who police say is a black man who was seen wearing dark clothing, approached the woman and punched her in the head, knocking her to the ground. The man then took the woman's waist pack, which had money and credit cards, from the front seat of her car and then ran away, police said.

The woman was treated for minor injuries at St. Francis Hospital and has since been released.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to call the Delaware State Police at 302-834-2630, extension 6.
