WILMINGTON, Del. -

The victim of a brutal murder in Wilmington, Delaware was positively identified as 43-year-old Wayne Cappelli of Claymont, police confirmed.

Police said Cappelli's body was found deceased in the brush on the side of the road in Silvercroft on February 18th. The medical examiner's office has declared the death a homicide. Police said the body showed significant marks of blunt force trauma, which they believe could have been caused by a baseball bat.

Investigators believe that the assault happened around the area where the body was found, on the 2100 block of Delaware Avenue. Police are asking residents of the area to check outside their homes for anything that seems unusual.

New Castle County Police are also asking anyone who was traveling on February 16th, between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. on Delaware Avenue between Marsh and Veale roads, to contact them at 302-395-8133 if they witnessed anything related to this crime.

Surveillance video of the area is requested by police as they think passengers in other vehicles traveling at that time may be witnesses to the crime.

You can reach Delaware police by calling (800) TIP-3333, or by texting the keyword "NCCPD" followed by your message to 847411. All tips can be anonymous.
