BERKLEY, Mich. (WJBK) -
A 'not guilty plea" was entered on behalf of a man suspected in the murder and dismemberment of his girlfriend inside their Farmington home.
28-year-old William Michael Dhondt was arraigned on a charge of "First Degree Premeditated Murder" on Tuesday and ordered held without bond.
Prosecutors releasing chilling details of the killing of 29-year-old Kaitlin Hehir in court on Tuesday.
"The defendant described an argument that turned physical. He described hitting her in the face with a glass cup, causing her to fall to the ground. He hit her in the face with his fist, causing her to bleed from the nose and mouth. He then got on top of her and slammed her head in the floor repeatedly causing her to bleed from her head. He then used his hands to strangle Kaitlin to death as she struggled and fought for her life."
Dhondt reported Hehir missing Saturday night but when he was questioned by police officers say he began to incriminate himself. Farmington police executed a search warrant after they found a black plastic bag covered in what appeared to be human blood discarded in a trash can in the couple's garage in the 23800 block of Colchester on Sunday.
Prosecutors say the defendant dismembered Kaitlin's remains and hid them in various areas within the residence. Defensive wounds were visible on Dhondt's hands and arms. The Novi Olive Garden employee appeared calm when he was arraigned via video. He asked for a court appointed attorney.
Hehir was employed by the 47th District Court in Farmington for nearly 5 years and that prompted the case to be moved to the district court in Berkley.
