The Pinellas County Clerk of Courts wants St. Petersburg and other cities to quit issuing red light camera citations.
Ken Burke posted an open letter on the Clerk of Court's website listing flaws in the red camera statute, and asking cities to place a moratorium on issuing any more tickets.
Burke said the red-light violations represent a minority of the cases the office deals with, but they take up a "disproportionate" amount of time.
He says the red-light statute is flawed, and listed several ways he says it confuses people.

Red light cameras have been a source of controversy in the cities where they have been installed.
St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster recently halted plans to add more cameras after complaints surfaced about yellow lights being too short.
In Collier County, commissioner voted to stop using them.
And there is a bill in the Florida legislature that would repeal the statute altogether.
