
Carlberg, 43, was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he later died.A wheelchair-bound Lakeland man fearing for his life shot his son dead Friday night at his home in Lakeland.
Lawrence Edward Carlberg Jr. suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m.
According to a Lakeland Police Department report officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Carlton St. in response to a shots fired call. When they arrived on scene officers found the 43-year-old man lying on the floor of the home injured.
Investigators say Lawrence Edward Carlberg Sr., 65, had gotten into a verbal argument with his son. The younger man made several threats to the point where Carlberg Sr. armed himself with a 9 MM handgun.
He produced the weapon and told the deceased to back away. At one point the report states Carlberg Jr. lunged at his father in the wheelchair.
The older man fired striking Carlberg Jr. once. Investigators say the son had recently moved back in with his father at the Lakeland home.
Detectives discussed the incident with the State Attorney's Office and no charges have been filed in this case.
