Restaurants forced to close because of boil order

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The boil water notice has become a costly inconvenience for Tampa bars and restaurants.

Friday is one of their busiest nights of the week, so they had to scramble, or risk losing customers.

And some restaurants simply had to shut down for the evening.

FOX 13's Jeremy Campbell reported that Maggiano's and PF Changs at Westshore Mall among those that closed.

For bars, drinks and ice were a big concern.

At the Green Iguana in Ybor, they brought in bottles of water and cans of soda for mixers, because the soda guns use carbonated city water.

"Bottled water, coca cola, soda water, tonic water, the cocktails, diet coke, we'll have the basics in small bottles . We're recommending to all customers that they drink bottled water," said Jason Fernandez, owner of Bernini restaurant on 7th Avenue.

Iguana owner Jason Fernandez said he bought 500 pounds of ice to get through the evening.

It's a huge expense and big curveball for these establishments.

Fernandez said in 18 years of working in the service industry, he's never seen anything like this.

FOX 13's Jeremy Campbell will have more at 10 & 11.
