Tweet about teacher's car gets student suspended

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Erik Nielsen, a student at Curtis High School on Staten Island, was suspended after he Tweeted a photo of a teacher's car parked in a no-parking zone and wrote "I hope Mr. Pillarella gets towed."

The teacher Tweeted back with: "you are over the line. Was this ever funny? It's not now."

Like a typical teen, Erik responded "It's only funny if you got towed."

According to Erik's tweets, he has been suspended for four days and will be back on Wednesday.

Online support for Erik has also been growing. Students created the hash tag "#tweetforerik" and even made up T-shirts.

The Department of Education said the student was disciplined and offered counseling. According to the DOE, a teacher is not permitted to have any contact with a student via social media, such as Twitter, unless it's an emergency.

When I asked the DOE about this, it said said the teacher's actions are under review.
