The central health concern about water in the City of Tampa right now is that it could contain disease-causing bacteria.
To kill the bacteria and purify that water, tap water should be at a rolling boil for a full minute before you drink it, health authorities say.
A water filter in your home may not be enough, so you should boil water from those as well.
Tap water is okay for showering, baths, shaving and washing -- just don't get it in your nose or mouth.
Coffee makers do not boil water, so you should use boiled or bottled water for that too.
Do not drink water from public drinking fountains.
Hand washing is okay -- unless you have an open wound. Those should be covered with waterproof bandages. Hand sanitizer is recommended.
Your other options are to add eight drops of bleach into a gallon of tap water, shake it, then let it stand for 30 minutes. You can also use water purification tablets.
