A wild emu that showed up in someone's backyard in Plant City has died.
The bird, native to Australia, was doing poorly after getting into a scuffle with two dogs. It wandered into someone's yard on Sandy Oaks Road in Plant City on Tuesday and suffered a bloody attack from a Great Dane and German shepherd.
The emu was rushed to Busch Gardens animal hospital.
Authorities corralled it into a truck and took it away. The bird was given painkillers and antibiotics, but it did not survive the brutal attack.
Deputies are still trying to figure out who the emu belongs to.
