The sheriff's office has obtained new information that indicates its missing cattle dog may be in the Tampa Bay area.
The specially trained pup, named "Doc," has been missing since he escaped Saturday from a special trailer attached to a vehicle. Deputies say the dog has become a mascot for the office's agricultural unit.
According to a witness, someone pulled over and tended to Doc on I-75 just south of Fruitville Road. The witness said the man was giving the dog water and said he was going to take it home.
The witness told the sheriff's office the dog looked in good shape, though he had a bit of road rash from his fall.
There's no word on a description of the man or the car he was driving. The sheriff's office is asking that he would return the dog.
There is a $1,000 reward for Doc's safe return.
You can contact the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200.
