
The tragic accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday night near the intersection of 122nd Ave. and 11th St.An unidentified woman was struck by a train and killed Friday night in Tampa.

According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report the victim and her boyfriend attempted to crawl underneath the CSX Transportation train to avoid a long walk.
The male, whose name has not been released, made it through before the train started moving again but the woman did not.
"The train was stopped for a manual switch at Fletcher Ave.," said Lt. Susan Bradford with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. "It's just a terrible tragic accident. The train was stopped and the boyfriend made it under in time; she tragically did not."
The victim is in her 50s according to authorities. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
HCSO Detectives spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.
"We are working closely with CSX to determine the official cause," Bradford added. "The victim was killed instantly."
The couple was trying to avoid a ¾-mile walk.
The train traveled approximately 10 miles before operators found out about the tragedy.
The investigation continues.
