Magnolia Bakery reopens after shut down over mice infestation

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Magnolia Bakery's West Village reopened Saturday afternoon after the Health Department temporarily shut down the store because officials found an infestation of mice.

The popular cupcake shop on Bleecker Street at the corner of West 11th, which gained fame after it was featured on "Sex and the City," was closed Thursday after mouse holes and droppings were found in the basement.

According to Magnolia Bakery spokeswoman Sara Gramling, the shop reopened at 5:30 p.m.

"We worked hard and we want to thank the New York City Department of Health to ensure that their high standard and ours were exceeded. We will continue to work hard to maintain our A rating," said Gramling.

Grambling said due to Hurricane Sandy, construction nearby and the fact that the location has a lot of older buildings led the mice needing a new home.

Exterminators have been working since Thursday to rid the store of the vermin.
