
Giguere, 35, was known as 'Coach Dan' by students at Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences.Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol are asking for the public's help in determining the cause of a crash that claimed the life of a popular Sarasota teacher.
Daniel Giguere was pronounced dead just before 8 a.m. on Friday, February 8th. He lost control of his 2004 Nissan 350Z on US Highway 41 near the intersection of Seagate Dr. in Manatee County, not far from the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.
So far no charges have been filed.
According to a FHP report Giguere was attempting to pass a white pick-up truck pulling a landscaping trailer and a blue Mustang when the incident occurred.
Detectives working the case are trying to identify the drivers of those two vehicles or anyone else who may have witnessed the crash.
Mijail Hurtado-Chavez, a 22-year-old Sarasota resident, suffered serious injuries when his 2002 Ford Ranger was also caught up in the crash. He was transported to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Giguere taught physical education and coached basketball at Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences. The 35-year-old teacher was also an avid skateboarder and was president of Sk8skool, a non-profit organization that operated a skate park in Sarasota.
