OLDSMAR (FOX 13) -
SPCA investigators say hundreds of little critters were saved from a bad situation, and now they need to be saved again.
In fact, a lot of furry animals are still looking for a home.
More than 360 animals were taken from an Oldsmar home in January after investigators were called out to investigate a missing toddler.
It turns out another relative had taken the child, but detectives could not ignore the hoarding of dozens and dozens of animals.
Many were in bad shape, according to SPCA investigator Jill Purl.
"When we arrived there were animals in filthy cages, there were numerous animals in small cages, they were just overwhelmed," Purl said.
Joyce Kovacs allowed her daughter to keep the animals, but she says it became too much.
"It just started getting overwhelming, and I just couldn't deal with it," she said.
But weeks later several soft and cuddly rabbits and bunnies are still waiting to be adopted, along with rats, bearded dragons and colorful, singing finches.
So with the weekend inching closer, the SPCA in Pinellas County hopes people will come out and take home a new member of the family.
