Gov. Jan Brewer marked Arizona's 101st birthday with two events Thursday at the Capitol.
The governor unveiled a privately commissioned bronze statue of Arizona miner George Warren, whose image appears on the state's official seal. Arizona artist Don Cox worked for more than 2 years on the statue.
The statue pays tribute to the significance of mining throughout Arizona history, and was presented by Bisbee native Jim Warne, Jr.
"So your gift is something that comes from deep love of Arizona and a great shared affection for its mining heritage," said Gov. Brewer.
Brewer Thursday evening turned on permanent lighting for the Capitol's copper dome and the Winged Victory figure atop the dome.
There was a brief fireworks display after the lighting.
