There are new developments surrounding a Phoenix mother accused of having sex with teenage boys. We've learned this isn't her first run-in with the law.
Police say Jennifer Dempsey met the teens on Facebook posing as a 16-year-old. She's also accused of faking cancer to avoid arrest.
Her family told police they really thought she had cancer -- at least that's what she'd told them for the last 5 years. That's around the time Dempsey got in big trouble for another crime and she was about to be sentenced.
Five years ago, Dempsey was charged with theft. Police say she didn't pay workers at a nursing home she ran. They say Dempsey also pretended to be a licensed nurse and she wasn't.
Dempsey pleaded guilty to one count of theft, and said she only pleaded guilty because she had medical problems. She asked for probation so she could get treatment.
Her parents, Jay and Teresa Toth, also wrote the court a letter saying:
"She has very serious medical conditions and it has recently been discovered that she has malignant tumors and will require surgery… she will not get the medical attention she needs if sentenced to jail." - February 10, 2009
In that case, a judge sentenced Dempsey to two years' probation.
Now, Dempsey is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old boy. Police say she lied about having cancer and went as far as shaving her head and pretending to wear to a chemotherapy port.
When officers took off the port they found it was fake. Police called the doctors she said were treating her and they told officers that Dempsey wasn't a patient.
It's not clear if Dempsey ever had cancer at some point in her life, or how she got the idea to tape a port on her chest. Right now she's being held without bond.
