Valentine's Day means many things to many people. For some it's romantic, and others feel it's expensive and a waste of time.
According to the American Express Spending & Saving Tracker, Americans plan on spending an average of $239 per person on Valentine's Day gifts, entertainment, dinners, and getaways, with men doing more spending than women. That amount is up from last year's tracker.
The tracker also says nearly 6 million are expecting a Valentine's Day proposal, but a third of the women polled say the holiday is overrated! Others say it's a fun holiday, but not a big deal. Still others say it is an important day to spend with your significant other.
And what did most say to give your significant other? Topping the list were gifts, dinners out and going to the movies.
