Eight-foot alligator pulled from Pinellas storm drain

A reptile in distress was rescued and transported to a new home Friday afternoon.

Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office with some assistance from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission freed the eight-foot alligator from a storm drain just after 2 p.m.

According to a PCSO report deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 94^th Ave. and 117^th St. North at approximately 1:30 p.m. A concerned citizen called 9-1-1 after seeing the gator's head protruding from the drain's opening.

The location is just a few blocks from an elementary school.

A FFWCC trapper with some help from several bystanders managed to pull the alligator from the storm drain. After checking the reptile for injuries, it was transported to a new home – an alligator farm in Dover.
