Looney, a 66-year-old Gibsonton resident, was transported to TGH where he later died.A 66-year-old Gibsonton man died early Saturday morning from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash.
Benny Ray Looney was transported to Tampa General Hospital shortly after the Friday night incident. He was pronounced dead several hours later.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report Looney was traveling west on Gibsonton Dr. in his 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he lost control of the vehicle just before 9 p.m.
Just before the intersection to Mathog Rd. the vehicle left the roadway, sideswiped two utility poles and went airborne over a wide ditch. The Monte Carlo came to a rest up against a home at 9622 Hagadorn Rd.
Fortunately nobody in the home was injured and the structure was not damaged.
Investigators suspect alcohol played a factor in the crash and Looney was not wearing a seatbelt.
No other information is available as the investigation continues.
