NJ shore town issues voluntary evacuation order

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey town hit hard by Superstorm Sandy is worried what the winter storm might do to its barrier island community.

Brick Township has issued a voluntary evacuation order for areas that are still recovering from Sandy. Residents in flood-prone sections should also move their cars to higher ground by 5 p.m. Friday.

The coast could see wave heights of 12 feet and minor to moderate flooding.

It's snowing near or north of Interstate 78 and raining elsewhere. Forecasters say it will turn to all snow by the evening rush.

NJ Transit will add additional trains during the afternoon. Buses and trains are cross-honoring tickets.

Plows and salt spreaders are ready.

Forecasters expect northeast New Jersey will get the most snow. South Jersey should receive the least.
