Police, family, and community members saturated a neighborhood in southwest Atlanta trying to find a killer. They canvassed the area around the Lakewood Shopping Center where someone killed 18-year-old Joshua Watson in the parking lot on Christmas Eve.
The group fanned out at the Lakewood Shopping Center, passing out flyers, talking to people and joining with police to catch the killer of Joshua Watson. Some of those who participated did not even know the young man.
The 18 year old was murdered the day before Christmas as he was headed to his mother's home for Christmas celebrations. Watson had gotten off late from his job at an airport restaurant. He had gotten off a MARTA bus and was walking through the parking lot of the shopping center when he was shot from behind.
Police say it looked like a robbery, but they are not really sure why he was killed. They hope the neighborhood canvassing with help to get them closer to the killer.
Family of Joshua Watson says he was an outstanding man, active in his church as a junior deacon, and passionate about his art. He was hoping to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Joshua's mother told FOX 5's George Franco that he was not carrying any cash when he was gunned down. She and the rest of his family want to find out who killed Joshua and why to help bring them closure.
Crime Stoppers is now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer. Anyone with further information should call 404-577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
