It's safe to say all of us would hate to lose out on any money we're owed, but Consumer Reports says it might be happening more than you think.
And we don't even know it.
For its February issue, Consumer Reports found a staggering amount of people who still have unclaimed life insurance benefits.
The total: About $1 billion. And it's just waiting for people to claim it.
The average claim is about $2,000, with some payouts as high as $300,000.
The magazine calculates the odds of some of that money belonging to you are about 1/600. You can do an online search to find out if any unclaimed money belongs to you.
