A new study reveals just how much time and money we waste every year stuck behind the wheel.
The study, which was taken by the Texas Transportation Institute, says traffic congestion caused Americans to travel an added 5.5 billion hours in 2011.
The study also found Americans purchased an extra 2.9 billion gallons of gas. If you break that down, the study says in the nation's most congested cities it adds about 35 to 95 minutes to a normally 20-minute drive.
The study shows these numbers are even down from 2005. Experts say people are actually driving less because of the economy, which means as things get better financially, traffic may actually only get worse.
There some good news here, though. Tampa did not make the list of most congested areas.
Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York are all near the top of the list.
But the study goes on to say bumper-to-bumper traffic is getting worse in all cities, so get comfortable in your car.
