A violent head-on crash between two sports cars in Lakeland left two people dead and two others injured Sunday afternoon.

According to Lakeland police, a green 2008 Lamborghini was westbound on University Boulevard when it crossed over the grass center median into the path of a white 2013 Nissan. The impact was so forceful that debris from the crash was scattered for approximately 1,000 feet.

Both people in the Lamborghini were killed. Police said Tiffany A. Beene of Kissimmee was behind the wheel, while Samuel Jonathan Hampton of Winter Haven was her passenger. Both were 24.

The victims in the Nissan are both from Pinellas County. The driver, Chi Yan Chan, 43, was hospitalized in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said. Passenger Tan P. Phan, 22, was treated and released.

Investigators said there was no evidence of impairment in the crash, and everyone was wearing seat belts.

The investigation continues.
