BRADENTON (FOX 13) -

A Manatee County man being sought on theft and fraud charges was arrested Sunday afternoon following a short pursuit near Bradenton.

Eric Baun, 36, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment before being booked into the Manatee County Jail. Deputies had to use a Taser on the suspect after he attempted to hide and flee.

According to a MCSO report deputies were dispatched to the 7200 block of Westmoreland Dr. at approximately 3:30 p.m. in response to a suspicious vehicle call.

When they arrived they found Baun sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle. He told deputies that his mother was a caretaker for a home in the neighborhood and he was there to pick her up.

Baun then excused himself and went inside the home to get his mother. The woman came out to talk to deputies but gave them a fake name. The deputies told her they needed to speak further with Baun but when she went back inside the residence she could not find him.

The woman then told deputies that she gave them a fake name because she knew there were warrants out for her son's arrest. She also told deputies that she feared Baun because he abuses narcotics.

A background check on the suspect revealed he was wanted on several theft and defrauding pawnbroker charges. A search of the area failed to turn up Baun.

A short time later they returned when a neighbor called to say Baun had returned to the residence where his mother was. A deputy went to the home and observed the suspect attempted to conceal himself in a large Turtle house in the backyard.

The deputy told Baun to give up but instead he attempted to run. The deputy deployed his Taser and the suspect immediately fell to the ground.

In his possession was found several ornate silver spoons and an ashtray. Investigators believe he pilfered them from the residence. The homeowner was out of town on business the report states.

After he was apprehended Baun complained of chest and ribcage pains. He was taken to MMH as a precaution.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
