ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - An Athens day care center says a woman accused of unlawfully taking her child from the center got inside by waiting until another parent exited a door requiring a security code.
The sheriff's department said 48-year-old Shannon Fluri had lost custody of her child. She was arrested after a 90-minute search and charged with interference with custody.
Oconee Preschool Academy reviewed what happened Wednesday and released a statement saying a teacher recognized Fluri after she gained access and told her not to get the child. The teacher phoned the day care center's director. The Athens Banner-Herald reports the director also told Fluri not to leave, but she fled with the child. The director ran after them but did not physically try to stop them. The director then called 911.
