A convicted felon with an extensive criminal history has been identified and arrested for assaulting a wheelchair bound man in the parking lot of a Sarasota Walgreens location.
Justin Michael Haney, 28, is being held without bond at the Sarasota County Jail. He is facing one count of strong-armed robbery and one count of battery.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report the suspect approached a 45-year-old male in a wheelchair at the Walgreens and inquired about purchasing from pills from him.
When the man said he didn't have any Haney allegedly punched in the face several times after trying to take his satchel. He was last seen fleeing on foot.
Surveillance video taken inside the store and in the parking lot was released to the public by SCSO in an attempt to identify the suspect.
Several tips identifying Haney as the suspect were called in to Crime Stoppers. On Wednesday an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect for violating the terms of his probation.
At the time of this latest arrest Haney was already on felony probation for a trespassing and battery conviction out of Charlotte County.
Haney is no stranger to law enforcement on the Suncoast. He's been arrested more than two dozen times and has served one stint in state prison for a home invasion conviction in 2009 out of Manatee County.
Additional charges may be filed against the suspect as the investigation continues.
