LAKE WALES (FOX 13) -
A 35-year-old Polk County man died Saturday from injuries sustained in an early morning one-vehicle crash in Lake Wales.
Michael Ray Glass was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m. A passenger in his 1988 Ford pick-up suffered minor injuries.
According to a Lake Wales Police Department report Glass was traveling east on State Road 60 near South 7th St. when he lost control of his vehicle.
The truck went off the roadway and rolled down an embankment. It came to rest near Old Hesperides Rd., pinning Glass underneath.
Audra Nell Russell Christ, 27, was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment. Christ told investigators that she and Glass had been out for the evening, became tired and pulled over to get some rest.
A little while later they awoke and decided to drive again. Christ fell back asleep but was awakened when Glass began calling out to her.
All she remembers after that is being bounced around inside the cab of the truck.
Investigators with LWPD's Traffic Homicide Unit were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence. The official cause of the crash is still under investigation.
