Authorities in Sarasota are asking for the public's assistance in tracking down a hit and run driver.
A silver or dark-colored, four-door sedan struck two pedestrians just after midnight Saturday morning near the intersection of North Washington Blvd. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
According to a Sarasota Police Department report one of the pedestrians – 62-year-old John Haygood – suffered life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say Haygood, a Sarasota resident, and another man was standing in the median of North Washington when a northbound vehicle jumped the curb and struck them.
The sedan fled the scene without stopping. Witnesses told SPD the driver was a white male. The vehicle sustained front end damage and the windshield may have shattered.
The second man has not been identified. He suffered some minor cuts and scrapes but did not require medical attention.
Haygood was airlifted by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. He is listed in critical condition.
If you have any information about this incident or know the whereabouts of the vehicle involved, please contact Sergeant Resch with the Sarasota Police Department at 941-364-7323.
