Authorities in Hillsborough County have made an arrest in connection with the January 25th shooting death of Tampa area woman.
Sara Gonzalez, 18, died from a gunshot wound at her residence in the 5200 block of Madison Lake Circle. Two men inside the home at the time of the homicide – the victim's brother and boyfriend – were both questioned but the stories kept changing.
Detectives say 17-year-old Josue Villa-Gomez is responsible for the woman's death.
Late Thursday he was arrested by deputies and charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of tampering with evidence and a weapons charge.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report deputies were dispatched to the residence just after 11 p.m. on January 25th. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a search of the home a Glock 9-milimeter handgun was located under the residence. After Villa-Gomez was read his Miranda Rights he told investigators that an unknown person knocked on the front door and shot Gonzalez when she answered it.
He later changed his story saying his girlfriend picked up the handgun from a dresser in the home and shot herself in the chest following an argument.
Villa-Gomez admitted to concealing the weapon before deputies arrived because he was scared.
On the day of the shooting the suspect was arrested on the tampering and weapons charge. Villa-Gomez was a convicted felon before this arrest according to the report.
Two days after the fatal shooting an autopsy showed Gonzalez died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the back. The suspect told investigators she had shot herself in the chest.
