NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Although the United States is planning to withdraw most troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, many units are still there or continue to deploy to the war zone.
A unit based out of Fort Drum, in northern New York, is among three major units deploying to Afghanistan in the spring, the Pentagon announced.
Roughly 2,200 personnel from Fort Drum's 10th Combat Aviation Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division will head overseas along with about 2,250 troops from Fort Stewart, Ga., and 500 troops from Fort Hood, Texas, the Department of Defense said.
