The good news is that 26 dogs were rescued from a property in Hillsborough County, the bad news is what they had to go through.
Animal control investigators took them from a home along Colson Road in Plant City, and they believe the dogs – all pit bulls – were part of a dogfighting ring.
Investigators say some of the dogs had severe injuries with cuts to their faces and bodies. Other dogs had what appeared to be scars with old wounds, officers said.
"Our immediate needs right now are caring for 26 dogs, which can be an overwhelming load for the staff, the shelter, the volunteers, and for vet services," said Sgt. Pam Perry of animal services.
No one was arrested, but officials say they are seeking
criminal charges against several people.
The dogs are being evaluated and treated for their injuries.
