In the film, "When Harry Met Sally," Sally Albright knows what women want. And you don't have to dine at Katz's Deli to get it.
It's called the O-Shot. Two quick injections that promise to re-ignite your sex life.
"What it does for a female is..rejuvenates the tissue that's responsible for their sexual response," said Dr. Kevin Aister of the Artemis Medical Group.
Aister offers the O-Shot at Artemis Image in Scottsdale. He says women of any age can benefit from the injection, but that it's particularly popular with women who are midlife and beyond.
"You alleviate some of the pain because as we age, there's dryness and atrophy and shrinking of the tissue that all gets replenished and it enhances their ability to have orgasm during sex," said Aister.
The secret ingredient in the O-Shot is platelet rich plasma or PRP. You've likely heard of it being used to treat sports injuries or even to rejuvenate the face.
When a patient comes in for the O-Shot, Dr. Aister takes a blood sample, spins it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets, and then injects them into the female anatomy.
"The platelets are full of what we call cytokines, which are growth factors. Those growth factors then stimulate stem cells and you get a rejuvenation of the tissue," explained Aister.
You don't have to go under general anesthesia. If you want to try the O-Shot, a nurse will help you apply a numbing cream and then the doctor will give you the shots in just a matter of 10 to 15 seconds.
One 42-year-old patient told FOX 10 she barely felt the shots. While she asked not to be identified in our story, she was eager to share how the O-Shot helped her achieve her own Meg Ryan moment.
"It's just more intense..quicker..it's not as stubborn," she said.
The mother of four also says the shots cured any minor incontinence she's experienced since having children. It's an added benefit Dr. Aister has seen time and time again.
"What's being found with this O-Shot is almost 100 percent of the cases of stress incontinence is relieved..it's cured."
The O-Shot promises big results with an equally significant price tag: $1,200 for the one-time procedure. But this patient says she would absolutely get the shots again.
"Do it. It's worth it. Makes me smile and your husband, oh yeah, definitely, definitely."
The O-Shot lasts about one year and patients can return for subsequent shots if desired.
Dr. Aister stresses that the O-Shot is not for women who have a low or no sex drive.
