Andy Johnson has been giving Bay area weather forecasts to WTVT viewers for over three decades. Sunday he worked his final weekend broadcasts.
Earlier this month he announced he would be retiring from Fox 13 on February 1st. Johnson, who grew up in Tampa, joined the station in August 1979.
He graduated Cum Laude from Florida State University with a degree in Meteorology. He also is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Chi Epsilon Pi (Meteorological Honor Fraternity), and Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics Honor Fraternity).
Andy has been voted one of the "Outstanding Young Men in America and is also listed in "Who's Who in Science and Engineering" and "Who's Who in the World and America." Johnson has served 18 years as the president of the West Central Florida Chapter of the American Meteorological Society.
He is only one of a handful of television meteorologists to be designated a Certified Consulting Meteorologist. He also holds the A.M.S. certification as a broadcast meteorologist.
"I am fortunate to have been blessed with having worked with such professional colleagues and followed by such loyal viewers," Johnson said. "Being a meteorologist for WTVT was a childhood dream of mine, which I was able to fulfill. Tampa is my home and always will be. So, if you see me around town, please say "Hi!"
Thank you Andy!
