TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A 24-year-old New York man died Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash.

Matthew Heilman passed away at Tampa General Hospital. He was transported there just before 7 p.m. Saturday shortly after the 2009 Harley Davidson he was riding on slid to the ground and struck a bus on Cleveland St. in Tampa.

The driver of the motorcycle – Kyle John Viticonte of Ormond Beach – is listed in serious but stable condition at TGH.

According to a Tampa Police Department report Viticonte, 23, was heading west when he observed traffic in front of him had come to stop. When he began to brake he lost control of the motorcycle.

It slid across the roadway and Heilman struck his head causing life-threatening injuries. His family in New York has been notified investigators say.

Detectives are still attempting to determine where the men were before the crash and where they were headed. It is not yet known if alcohol played a factor as the investigation continues.
