Investigators say the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. along Coffee Pot Blvd. in St. Petersburg.A 21-year-old Bay area man is facing a variety of charges including DUI manslaughter following a fatal hit and run crash in St. Petersburg Friday night.
Timothy Michael Dean is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a bond of $175,000. Investigators say the suspect's 2006 Ford F250 pick-up struck an elderly couple on a walk in the 1900 block of Coffee Pot Blvd.
According to a St. Petersburg Police Department report the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Dean was driving south, operating his vehicle in a careless manner when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
Gloria Mastell, a 67-year-old St. Petersburg resident, and Roger Wurr, a 72-year-old visitor from Germany, were walking along the water when Deacon's truck went up over the curb.
The impact knocked Mastell over a seawall and into Coffee Pot Bayou. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency service personnel.
Wurr was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses say Deacon fled the scene but was located at his St. Petersburg residence with the truck.
He was arrested and charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, one count of DUI with serious bodily injuries and one count of DUI manslaughter.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
