Police are warning residents in East Cobb County of a neighborhood crime spree. A sneaky burglar is entering homes through unlocked garage doors and stealing whatever they can carry.
The thief has been targeting homes along Lower Roswell Road that are just a few hundred yards from the police prescient. Investigators are calling the string of thefts crimes of opportunity. They say homeowners should close those opportunities by making sure their garage doors are down completely and locked. Items should also be removed from sight in vehicles and make sure their doors are locked.
In one instance, the thief stole a handgun from a car then entered the home through an unlocked door, stealing a laptop from inside the home all while the homeowner was asleep. In another instance, they snagged a fancy $27,000 watch left in a unlocked car.
According to police records, the suspect then go shopping in residents' homes for iPads, sunglasses, credit cards, a purse, and cash.
The fact that all the incidents have been so close lead investigators to believe they are all related. They are asking anyone with information on the burglaries to call the Cobb County Police Tip Line at 770-499-3966. If you believe you are witnessing a crime in progress, they say you should call 911 immediately.
