Metropolitan Museum's Islamic galleries

Metropolitan Museum's Islamic galleries are very popular

NEW YORK (AP) - New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art says more than a million people have visited its new galleries on Islamic art since they reopened 14 months ago.

The galleries reached the milestone on Jan. 18.

The museum says that's about 2,550 visitors a day. It's 14 percent of the Met's total attendance during that period.

The galleries were reinstalled in November 2011 after a major expansion and renovation.

They feature over 1,200 Islamic artworks, spanning 1,300 years.
