MJ: Bubba ruined our reputation

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

He has accused his radio rival of defaming him on the air and damaging his reputation, and Wednesday morning Todd "MJ" Schnitt faced cross-examination.

It was an emotional morning in court as Schnitt talked about what he called a traumatic ordeal for his family, and he even admitted his issues with Bubba the Love Sponge Clem date back to when the two worked for the same company.

Schnitt continued to detail alleged verbal attacks he says that came from Bubba's fans. He said he couldn't go anywhere without being "verbally assaulted," and he claims he had to change his lifestyle because of it.

He even said he feared for his life at one point as a Bubba fan allegedly tried to run him off the road.

And then he turned to the jury and gave this emotional plea:

"I know there are no amount of damages that will compensate me, my wife and my family from what we experienced and the lies that were told about us – the damage to our reputation," Schnitt said, choking back tears. "But I think the jury should award damages that will enable us to believe that we did all we could possible to clear our good names, restore our reputation and prevent Mr. Clem from doing this to anybody else in the future."

During his testimony, Schnitt did concede that he still goes out in public sometimes, including public events for the radio station. He conceded as well that he, too, makes fun of people on his radio show.

Defense attorneys questioned why Schnitt was able to make fun of others, but not vice versa. Schnitt replied that those alleged by Bubba fans were apparently vulgar and malicious.

Testimony continues Wednesday afternoon.
