Florida Sen. Bill Nelson will be tearing through the Everglades on Thursday, participating in the python challenge that has caught attention all over the country.
It's a month-long competition to try and catch the largest and most pythons. The goal is to reduce the population of snakes, which don't belong here in Florida.
About a thousand people are taking part in the challenge. There's a $25 entrance fee and you have to sit through a 30-minute class.
Sen. Nelson is pushing a law that prohibits the sale and importation of exotic snakes like the Burmese python.
Earlier this week, we spoke to a local man who captured an 11-foot python. You can see our interview with him at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/video?clipId=8179646&autostart=true?clienttype=generic&mobilecgbypass.
