FRASER, Mich. (WJBK) -- Guests are calling the night manager a hero after he told them to get out after a fire broke out inside a Fraser motel.
Officials say two firefighters were injured while battling the early Thursday blaze at the Flamingo Motel along Groesbeck Highway. The pair was taken to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. Officials say they're expected to fully recover. No other injuries were reported.
Several guests say 'Joe,' the night manager, knocked on as many doors as he could alerting everyone about the blaze before firefighters took over. Several of those guests thanking Joe for saving their lives.
Fraser firefighter Dan Kolke says most residents were out of the motel when they arrived on scene.
For some the motel is home and several people lost everything. The Red Cross will be helping those victims for a short time.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
