Law firm worker accused of copy machine toner theft

A former employee of a Manhattan law firm is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of copy machine toner to sell on the black market.
Adrian Rodriguez, 39, of Queens, worked at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson. He faces two felony grand larceny charges.
"It may surprise many New Yorkers to learn that there is a black market for office supplies," said District Attorney Vance. "This defendant didn't just take a box of Post-it Notes out of the office supply closet."
According to court documents, Rodriguez worked in the firm's copy department for a decade.
Prosecutors claim that starting in 2010, he started ordering thousands of dollars worth of toner beyond what the firm needed from Konica Minolta Business Solution and Ricoh U.S.A., which had contracts with the firm.
Rodriguez would then allegedly resell black ink toner for $10 per box, and color ink toner for $15 per box. The total losses for the firm topped $376,000.
This isn't the first big toner theft case prosecuted by the Manhattan District Attorney's office.
In 2011, Marque Gumbs, a former employee at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center was convicted of stealing more than $1.5 million worth of printing toner cartridges from the hospital.
