He's one of the most popular wrestlers of all time, but after years in the ring, Hulk Hogan's doctors told him he needed surgery on his spine.
Surgery, his lawyers say, he would've had if he hadn't gone to the Laser Spine Institute in Tampa.
"They put their financial motives ahead of the medical motives that they were charged with," said Hogan's attorney, Wil Florin.
Hogan's legal team says physicians and co-owners of the Laser Spine Institute not only talked him out of the surgery he needed, they say the clinic gave him half a dozen procedures he didn't need.
"That's the negligence here and that all these procedures are unnecessary. They knew that. They should've known that. They should've told him we can't help you. And that's what the case is about," Florin said.
Not only did the procedures not help, his lawyers say they made it worse, costing him a $50 million contract and what may have been the biggest pay-per-view fight of his career.
"This is a case where he really only needed this one match. This isn't a situation where he was planning to wrestle for the next 20 years. This is a situation where this one match during this time period would've set the stage for this large international contract to be his send-off," Florin said.
Now, he's suing for the loss of the contract and other deals.
The Laser Spine Institute wouldn't talk about the lawsuit, saying it "cares about its patients and their outcomes, and is proud to have helped thousands of patients."
