Even though the purloined pooch is back home, the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office is still looking for two men who stole a dog at gunpoint Saturday morning.
Derek McComber was out walking 'Bueller' near his apartment on Pinehurst Drive in Town 'N Country just after midnight when, he says, a car pulled up to him. McComber says two men wearing hoods were in the car and one of them asked what kind of dog he had. McComber replied that it was a French Bulldog, which is a valuable breed.
"That's when they were like, 'We're taking him.' And I kind of stepped back like, 'No, you're not.' When he opened the door he had a gun in his hand," said McComber.
McComber says the man pointed the gun at him, so he dropped the leash and the man with the gun grabbed Bueller. The sped off with the expensive breed in hand.
"I bought mine for $1,000, but they can be $3,000 to $4,000," McComber said.
After Bueller was taken at gunpoint, McComber saw the car go down Pinehurst and turn right onto Waters, toward Sheldon. He says it was a gray, two-door, Honda Civic. By the time Derek got into his truck to follow them, it was too late. The car was gone.
The Sheriff's Office says it's a crime that they haven't seen. Spokesperson Cristal Bermudez Nunez says people are desperate.
"You really have to be careful. That's what we tell people. "If you're going to walk your dog, try to do it during daylight. If not, in a well-lit area," she said.
But the story has a happy ending. Just after FOX 13's interview with McComber, he got some very good news: Bueller was found.
A neighbor says the dog was just sitting in his yard Saturday morning. McComber says Bueller is safe and sound now. He was lost without him.
"That's all I got. That's all I got," he said. "Seriously, that's all I got is my dog."
If you can help deputies find the two men who took Bueller, give them a call.
