An 18-year-old Hillsborough County man and his teenage brother were arrested Friday for their roles in the January 2012 death of a Thonotosassa man.
Roger Castle made his first appearance before a judge on Saturday. His bond hearing on charges of first-degree murder and robbery was pushed back to Monday.
The 17-year-old is facing similar charges. He was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report an injured Christopher Charles Daniels was found lying in a ditch on the south side of Franklin Rd. on January 16, 2012. The 18-year-old man was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
At first investigators thought Daniels may have died as the result of an auto accident, but they later found his vehicle at Antioch Park without a scratch on it.
Detectives kept working the case and through a recreation of the scene were able to determine what happened to Daniels. They say the suspects attempted to rob Daniels in a ‘drug deal gone bad,' scenario.
To prevent the robbery Daniels hung on to the side of Castle's vehicle as he attempted to flee. The victim incurred fatal injuries when he fell just west of the entrance to Antioch Park on Franklin Rd.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
