A new expansion is pushing the Seminole Hard Rock to a new level in the casino world.
"We are the fourth largest casino in the United States and the sixth largest casino in the world," said John Fontana.
The casino christened its new high-dollar black jack room by calling on some star power. Paula Abdul dealt the first hand.
The $100 minimum table is part of an $80 million expansion adding almost 1,000 new slot machines, 15 new table games and a new restaurant. The size of the casino now stretches five football fields.
Compare that to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which has fewer slots and only about two-thirds the floor space of the Hard Rock. The sheer size and numerous gaming options are how the Seminole Hard Rock got it's number four status.
"That statistic is really driven by the size of the casino itself and gaming position, but there are properties with 5,000 rooms and retails," Fontana said.
Casino to casino, the Seminole Hard Rock is not only one of the largest places to gamble, it's also becoming a good bet to find a job in Tampa Bay. The local expansion comes with the local jobs to staff it.
"The expansion added about 300 new jobs to the market, in addition to the construction jobs that are there. So we're now up to about 3,400 team members that are here that all work and live and spend tourist money in the market," Fontana said.
