Buggy Bandits, beware! Winter Haven Police are looking for you. They just kicked off a missing shopping cart crackdown. In the first two days, they found more than 60 scattered in neighborhoods across the city.
"It is kinda like an eyesore," commented Gerald Keaton, a Winter Haven resident.
It is also a crime. Taking a buggy is a felony possibly punishable by jail time. They cost up to $300 each to replace.
Police found six carts in Lucia Butler's yard.
"We ain't going to take anymore, she told FOX 13 on Friday. "Ain't going to jail."
Winter Haven police say they have only been warning people about taking buggies. But if someone gets caught a second time with a shopping cart, they can expect to be cited.
