NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A large mobile crane collapsed at a construction site in Long Island City, Queens, on Wednesday afternoon, injuring several workers and sending other scrambling for safety.

The accident happened just behind the famous Pepsi-Cola sign in the Hunters Point neighborhood, south of the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, at about 2:25 p.m., a witness said.

Workers at the site said the crane was lifting wood when they heard the boom snap buckle and then break.

Seven people have been injured, an official said. Four suffered minor injuries, while three were seriously hurt, officials said.

Medics took two of the injured to Cornell Medical Center and the other five to Elmurst Hospital, authorities said.

The three who were most badly hurt hurt were listed in serious but stable condition, officials said.

The FDNY searched the site and said everyone is accounted for.

One worker told Fox 5 News that he saw a man try to jump out of the way of the falling crane but became trapped.

A co-worker said  the victim was "not looking good."

Video from SkyFoxHD showed the fallen boom lying across the length of a building under construction.

It happened at a construction project by the company TF Cornerstone. It is part of a large apartment and condo project.

Department of Buildings officials issued a stop-worker order at the site while engineers and inspectors investigate what happened.
